Future Development
We learned a lot getting the first version of the archive installed in Tennant Creek. In 2008 we will be working on updates to the current system and on scaling the archive to create a software package for use by other Indigenous communities.
We had fruitful discussions in Australia with others working on digital archive projects. The folks at Ara Irititja, NT Libraries, and PARADISEC all shared similar views and ideas about future development possibilities and areas for partnerships.
In the coming year we will also be working with the Plateau Center for American Indian Studies at Washington State University on leveraging the Mukurtu system to archive the Plateau materials held at the university.
Our goals for future development include:
- An audio component that allows audio tracks to be recorded on the fly and attached to content already in the database
- Mapping capabilities
- Addition of public collections
- Robust installation package
- Production/remix functionality
